Scholarships for Indigenous Journalism Students

Submissions are no longer being accepted and the recipients of the 2019/2020 awards will be announced later in October. Submissions will open, for the 2020/2021 academic year in the spring of 2020.

In its landmark 2015 report, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada called on the media and journalism schools to address the lack of cultural awareness and knowledge about the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada. Supporting and encouraging Indigenous journalism students is a meaningful way for the Foundation to respond to this call to action.

With support from the B.C. Teachers' Federation, the Foundation will grant up to two scholarships of $2,000 each to be paid towards tuition at the recipients' schools.

Who is eligible?
  • Applicants must be B.C. residents who identify as Indigenous
  • Applicants must be enrolled in full-time studies at a B.C. post-secondary journalism program

Eligible journalism programs are at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Langara College, Thompson Rivers University, and the University of British Columbia.
