Journalism Fellowships Announced

Jack Webster Foundation Co-Chair Debora Sweeney announced more than $22,000 in funding for 2009 recipients of the JWF Fellowships.

Seven recipients will attend the Poynter Institute in Florida in the following courses: TV Power Reporting, the Poynter Leadership Academy, Essential Skills for the Digital Journalist, Multimedia Journalism for College Educators, and Backpack journalism. One recipient will attend the Banff Centre's Science Communications Program.

"To date, the Jack Webster Foundation has supported 40 BC journalists with professional development programs and 20 additional BC journalists who have participated in our CIDA-sponsored Seeing the World through New Eyes program," Sweeney said. "It's a privilege to support BC journalists in Jack Webster's name and to provide unique opportunities to enhance their education and experiences."

Deadline for entries to the 2010 fellowships is January 15, 2010.

The Jack Webster Foundation was established in 1986 to recognize and support excellence in BC-based journalism.
