2006 Jack Webster Awards launched

Steve Crombie and Chris Weafer, Co-Chairs of the Jack Webster Foundation, launched the 2006 Jack Webster Awards today to recognize excellence in BC print and broadcast journalism.

Eligible BC print and broadcast journalists can win a "Webster" statue and a $1,000 cheque if they are judged the best in one of 12 categories:
  • News (one each for print, radio and tv),
  • Feature (one each for print, radio and tv),
  • Science and Technology,
  • Legal Journalism,
  • Business, Industry and Economics,
  • Community,
  • Chinese Language (news entries only),
  • Commentator of the Year - also known as the City Mike Award in honour of Jack Webster's groundbreaking CJOR radio program which established Webster as one of BC's pre-eminent commentators.


  • Submissions must have been aired or published between June 1, 2005 and May 31, 2006. Deadline for entry is June 30, 2006.

    Jack Webster Awards Dinner
    The awards will be presented the 2006 Jack Webster Awards Dinner on Monday, October 30th at the Vancouver Centre.

    The Jack Webster Foundation was established in 1986 to recognize excellence in journalism in British Columbia.
